Marvelous Pop Rock, Folk Pop: Joe Egan - Out Of Nowhere 1979 (2016 Angel Air)

b. c.1944 Scotland. The former partner of Gerry Rafferty in Stealers Wheel, Egan recorded two low-key albums after their final disintegration. Out Of Nowhere contained the charming ‘Back On The Road Again’, a turntable hit on UK radio.
Both albums were similar in structure to the three Stealers Wheel collections and demonstrated the considerable songwriting ability of Egan, who sadly was unable to find his own ‘Baker Street’. After a number of years of musical inactivity Egan worked with Rafferty by adding some backing vocals on his 1993 album On A Wing & A Prayer. He also benefited from the use of the Rafferty/Egan composition ‘Stuck In The Middle With You’ in the film Reservoir Dogs that same year (allmusic.com)

Wonderful album from a great pop musician and songwriter. Egan and Rafferty were one of the greatest pop songwriter teams from Great Britain of all time but that's just my humble opinion. :-)
Enjoy. (Frank)

  1. In terms of success, what separates two equally gifted artists sharing the same musical origin, interests and ideas, who worked in a complementary fashion from which the corresponding albums were greatly benefitting ? A short saxophone phrase (for which, by the way, Raf Ravenscroft got an uncovered check for about 20 £), iconical enough to get constant airplay till today while - at the same time - most people only shrug their shoulders when Joe Egan's name is mentioned.
Thanks a lot, Frank, great album...
