Sunshine Pop/Vocal/Folk Pop: Webster's New Word - Columbia & RCA Singles 2018 (24-96)

Webster's New Word was a band from San Francisco that recorded several singles during the mid-sixties. Members were Jim Mason, Gus Duffy, Jon Talbot, Jerry Peloquin, Buddy Hill, KC Lynch. Some of you may know the band from several Sunshine Pop/Soft Rock compilations.

Webster’s New Word emerged out of the U. of Notre Dame’s fledgling collegiate folk scene during the JFK sixties. Three of the members (Gus Duffy, Hilton Hill and KC Lynch) were previously in the Winds (aka the Four Winds). In 1965, Fantasy Records released their single,"Radiation Baby" under the name "Winds of Notre Dame".

The range of their singles, which were produced between 1965 and '67, remind us of Spanky And Our Gang, Jefferson Airplane, early Turtles or The Association.
If you're interested in the biography of the band as well as more detailed information and an interview, then check out the Wendy-City blog (link here). Very detailed and well done. Enjoy.(Frank)

  2. Great music, just read a good synopsis of them on Turning the Tide blog. Thanks so much for making these great tunes available. It is too bad, they did not make it big.
