Psychedelic Pop/Pop Rock: Cupid's Inspiration - Yesterday's Has Gone 1969 (1995 Repertoire)

Based in Stamford, Lincolnshire, England, and initially known as the Ends, this pop attraction secured a recording contract with NEMS on the strength of vocalist T. (Terry) Rice-Milton (b. 5 June 1946). The line-up was completed by Wyndham George (b. 20 February 1947; guitar), Laughton James (b. 21 December 1946; bass) and Roger Gray (b. 29 April 1949) and featured on ‘Yesterday Has Gone’ (1968), a song originally recorded by Little Anthony And The Imperials. Cupid’s Inspiration’s cover version rose to number 4 in the UK chart, during which time pianist Garfield Tonkin (b. 28 September 1946) was added to the line-up.

However, despite enjoying a subsequent minor hit with ‘My World’, the quintet was unable to repeat the success of their powerful and catchy debut single. The line-up was disbanded at the end of the year, but within weeks Rice-Milton and Gray re-emerged alongside newcomers Bernie Lee (guitar) and Gordon Haskell (b. 27 April 1946, Bournemouth, Dorset, England; bass, ex-Les Fleur Des Lys). A new-found, more ‘progressive’ style, failed to reverse declining fortunes and the band disintegrated.

Rice-Milton began a short-lived solo career in 1970 with a revival of Cilla Black’s ‘You’re My World’. Haskell joined King Crimson and recorded several low-key solo albums, before emerging from obscurity in 2001 to almost hit the top of the UK Christmas singles chart with ‘How Wonderful You Are’.(allmusic.com)

The album convinces with beautiful melodies and very good arrangements. The orchestral parts fit harmoniously and naturally into the band sound. A wonderful pop album to recommend to every sixties pop fan. Enjoy(Frank)

Info: Unfortunately I couldn't convert the song ''Everything Is Meant To Be'' to mp3. So I left it in flac format.
