Ye Ye? Anti Ye Ye? No, '60s French Pop: Clothilde - Queen of the French Swinging Mademoiselle 1967 (2013 Born Bad)
Clothilde, queen of the Swingin' Mademoiselles... Why Clothilde? Why not Françoise Hardy, an international star better able to bear the title, or the one more easily associated with the subgenre, France Gall? Because it is the most characteristic and archetypal of the French mademoiselles, that's why! Christine Pilzer, even Jacqueline Taïeb before her, both of them were first discovered in this style unique to French Pop Sixties, and Stella was also the most "anti-YéYé" with her anti-institutional and mocking words, controlling the Pop establishment and the system but, just like with Cleo, everything is more in the song text, not so much in the music and production. For that, we think Clothilde is taking the crown.
Not only does Clothilde have the most natural disposition as a singer (albeit unconsciously), singing such subversive lyrics with as much second degree and detachment but, her music itself is highly original: inventive arrangements where you can distinguish hunting horn, musical saw, bell sounds, barrel organ, marimba, violins and brass, wind instruments and a hectic Fuzz guitar among this burlesque style audio junk. Almost avant-garde in concept, it was conceived by the impresario, the manager and creator of Clothilde, the legendary Artistic Director of Vogue Records: Germinal Tenas. (Born Bad Records)
I translated the description from the french site of Born Bad Records with a translator. I hope it's understandable :-). If you like french pop music of the sixties you can give it a try. But this is not the usual sugary ye ye pop girl style. This is a little..special. Enjoy.(Frank)
