Mexican Psychedelic Pop, Pop: Los Chijuas - Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 1968-69 (2007 La Ciruela Electrica)
The Chijuas were alone, lost on a deserted island. No group before or after could match them in their style. Mexican popsike garagero never sounded this way. The culminating point and the best example of philosophy: Do it yourself.
Los Chijuas, a group that turned its limitations into virtues. Some pop Midas. Because "Mighty Quinn" is pure gold, Alex Chilton's "Neon Rainbow" and the Box Tops, or "I Love You" by Los Zombies, three pieces that shine like never before with the Chijuas. As if that weren't enough, his unlimited talent, delivers two classics: "Changing the colors of life" round theme in all aspects; it stands out for its hypnotic bass, the incandescent farfisa and the traveling lyrics. "Oh It's Wonderful" had it all to become a hit, timeless melody, self-pleasing love lyrics and a radiant execution.
In choosing their repertoire, unlike the hundreds of groups that swarmed the country in the 1960s, the Chijuas stand out for their vocal and musical arrangements, more elaborate than usual.
An outstanding work, a total victory in several factors. (Gusdan, reader rateyourmusic.com)
