Steve Jones/Paul Cook: The Professionals - The Professionals 1980 (1997 Virgin)

Who the Sex Pistols really were could no longer be hidden after this album at the latest. One half (at least Steve Jones, the other half was Cook, Lydon and ...yes..McLaren...there was something else...oh, Glen Matlock. But Matlock was the outsider. And then he got fired. Besides, he wasn't on the Bollocks album. But a lot of the musical ideas came from him. And that album was the true revolution. Without the Pistols nothing had happened that way. ("It was a mistake to kick Matlock out. With him we would surely have made two or three more great records" (Steve Jones, years later).

All the rumours that the Pistols didn't record anything themselves, but session musicians are complete nonsense. But okay we're not talking about the Pistols now but about the Professionels. And if Keith is a so-called guitar hero, then what is Steve Jones? You hear him for two seconds and immediately know who's playing. Angus occurs to me but I digress again.

Just turn your system to full volume and listen to the album. And after that the Never Mind The Bollocks again. Have I forgotten anything else? No, don't say Sid now. I talk about music...
Enjoy.(Frank)
