Universal UK's 2007 release Bolan at the Beeb is a valuable triple-disc collection that rounds up all existing BBC recordings that Marc Bolan made, tracing his evolution from Tyrannosaurus Rex to T. Rex.
The value in the set is not quite in its rarity -- these sessions have been released in a number of forms before -- but rather in its convenience, comprehensiveness, and cleanliness, as it has all the BBC recordings in one place, sounding the best they ever have,
and they're illuminated by an essay by Mark Paytress that helps place it all in context. Make no mistake, this is certainly for serious Bolan-philes only (but are there any other kind in the late 2000s?), the kind that are happy to purchase music yet again if it is presented in a better fashion, which it surely is on Bolan at the Beeb.
