The Rats (David Kubinec) - First Long Player Record 1974 (2006 RPM)

With only one single to their credit, the Rats were forgotten until they and that single, "Turtle Dove," were excavated for RPM's junk-shop glam rock Boobs -- and a few years later, RPM put out First Long Play Record, the first time a full-length Rats record ever surfaced.

Appropriately for a band that barely existed in the charts, the Rats weren't so much a real group as a project, fronted by David Kubinec and produced by ex-Joe Meek engineer Adrian Millar. They were meant to ride the glitter wave, so it's not much surprise that they sounded like a blend of T. Rex and the Sweet, two of the biggest bands in the style, and that kind of unapologetic theft is part of the pleasure here.
Glam and glitter always sounded better when they were trash, and what's trashier than stealing from other bands? But the Rats stole with style, crafting a bunch of really intoxicating pop along the way, including the boogie of "L.A. Highway" and "Oxford Donna," which brings to mind shades of Bolan's "Mad Donna."

If the cheap pleasures of First Long Play Record kind of fizzle out by the end of the album, it nevertheless has plenty of punch throughout, and is the rare glitter record that comes very close to delivering on the promise of its single.(allmusic.com)

    1. Hello Unknown,
i will upload a new Flac link in a few minutes. If you get a ''403 Forbidden'' message, i think you are in a country where Zippyshare is blocked. You can use a vpn for browsers (it's free) and you will get connected without problems to zippy. You will find solutions for usual browsers like chrome, firefox, opera if you google around. In case of opera it is already installed in the browser.
      Kind regards
      Frank

  2. Many thanks, I managed to buy the 2nd CD, but the first is far too expensive anywhere online at the moment.
Though I'll keep looking while I am able to listen to this.
I tried Opera first, but it still didn't work.
However, installing Opera, then uninstalling it has screwed up some settings within chrome - and who knows where else..???

Others need to be made aware of this potential problem.

    1. Hello Unknown,
hmmm... i don't know why it don't works for you and make problems, too. For me it works very good. Without any problems. I only push the button for the vpn in Opera it it works. Also it is fast, too. And a lot of people I know (from the blog here are also very satisfied with Opera vpn. I am very sorry about your problems and it wasn't my intention. But i don't understand why it screwed settings within chrome. I also use four different browsers on my machine but never had problems like that. Anyway, i hope you'll fix it and again sorry for your inconvenience.
Nevertheless i hope you will have a great weekend.
      Kind regards
      Frank

  3. No problems..
    thanks for helping.
Computers are unpredictable, what works on many might not work on a few.
But at least we need to try different things.
I'll test opera on a different PC.

    cheers..
